Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has recently approved funding for the construction of two new primary school (PS) buildings,
one at Broomlands PS in Kelso and the other at Langlee PS in Galashiels.
SBC intends to appoint a contractor(s) to carry out and complete the design, construction and delivery. It is anticipated that the existing design team will have completed the design to RIBA Stage 3 at the point of tender, the existing design team will be novated to the successful contractor(s). Details of design team as detailed below:

Civil & Structural Engineer - Goodson Associates Ltd
Landscaping - LDA Design
Fire Engineer - Atelier Ten
Acoustician - New Acoustics
Broomlands PS will be spread over two floors with an approx GIFA of 3,200m2. Langlee PS will be spread over three floors with an approx GIFA of 4,100m2.
Both schools will incorporate a nursery,primary teaching rooms, games hall, catering kitchen,dining facilities, MUGA pitch and associated staff accommodation areas. In addition, Langlee PS will also incorporate seperate Additional Support Needs teaching areas.
It is anticipated each development(s) will be built alongside the existing school(s), which will be in occupation during the duration of the construction period. Once the developmen(s)has been completed and the school transfered to the new building(s),the original building(s)will be demolished to make way for landscaping and car parking.
SBC's principal objectives are to deliver innovative educational and community facilities that make a significant contribution and presence within the communities which they serve.
Contractor(s) selected for the tender stage will be required to be fully accredited SSIP members of Constructionline in line with SBC's Corporate Control of Contractors Policy.
