South Uist Renewable Energy Limited are proposing to install a small community owned wind farm in Loch Carnan, South Uist. We are seeking expressions of interest from parties interested in providing the civil engineering requirements.
Outline of requirements.
Key activities:
Act as Civils Contractor constructing all the infrastructure / civil works required.
Act as Principle Contractor for the period of construction of the Project's infrastructure, as required under CDM regulations.
Provide all required Health & Safety and welfare facilities required.
1. Construction of 2.5km of access road across an area of ground which consists of numerous rock outcrops of massive granite or gneiss, either bare rock or covered with very thin soil, interspersed with small lochs and areas of peat of variable depth. It is therefore anticipated that the construction of the access road will require the following three construction methods
Over low, reasonably level knolls and shallow peat (up to, say, 0.6m) strip soft material the access road will need to be built up with crushed rock.
On sloping rock cut out a bench and small ditch on the top side, which may require drilling and or blasting operations. It is expected that the rock produced will be used if possible to complete the bench and build the road on top, with imported rock used if necessary.
Over deeper peat, the contractor should try not to disturb the existing top vegetation, laying a suitable geogrid and then using imported crushed stone build a formation layer on which the running surface can be laid. In deeply fissured peat the surface under the geogrid should be regulated using crushed stone;
2. Construction of 3 crane hard-standings to the an agreed specification at the agreed co-ordinates;
3. Drainage scheme, including drainage channels plus soakaways and filters, adjacent to the Access Road and Crane Hardstandings, as per the design by Green Cat Renewables Limited;
4. Construction of the foundation for the pre-fabricated sub-station;
5. Construction of 0.5km cable trench connecting the three turbines and the substation on site.
